Welcome to a new cut-down Richard Young

I've lost track of the number of web sites I've made. It's not many - but the six or seven attempts have been spread over so many years, that I've completely lost count. The first was Real Finance - constructed on Blogger, but with HTML I taught myself so the site felt like the mag it supported. (It's long dead, but the old Real Finance blog has a handful of captures at the Wayback Machine.

After that, pages pulled together using BT's and then Virgin's web design and hosting "out-of-the-box" services. I tried a couple of others without much success, and then enjoyed using Montaigne - an Apple Notes-to-HTML service with hosting built in. It was great! But also a bit flaky, and the developer is always hopping onto other projects. Plus it lost a bunch of travelogue entries from our last big holiday, so I went a bit sour on it. Substack, obvs, also LinkedIn is kind of making your own site? But nothing has really stuck, and frankly I'm in the market for low-effort web publishing that isn't Big Tech exploitative and avoids bells and whistles.

So this looks promising. Let's see whether it can shape up as a shop window for my business writing, editing and presenting services.

You can, of course, still find me elsewhere:
